Where Roots Dig Deep

Inside the ground
Where roots dig deep
The avenues
Where secret lovers sleep.

A small stirring
Where roots dig deep
Reaching far into
The part of my heart that weeps

Death and decay
Where quiet sins grow deep
Quick to sow
But not as glad to reap.

A lonely weed
Where blood and veins grow deep
The offspring’s poison
Runs down my cheek

Will evil crumble away
Where roots dig deep
Will forgiveness renew
Even as I do not speak
